Ottimo Pizza Kitchen Grand Opening
Ahern Hotel Celebrates Grand Opening Of Ottimo Gourmet Kitchen And Pizzeria
Ahern Hotel, a modern, luxury, boutique hotel and events center, located across from the Sahara Las Vegas, celebrated the Grand Opening of Chef Joel Ott’s Ottimo Gourmet Kitchen and Pizzeria, Las Vegas’s newest casual gourmet pizza destination on Saturday, May 6 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
Chef Joel joined Ahern Hotel in 2019 as Executive Sous Chef. Not too long after, he was promoted to V.P. of Culinary Operations, and in 2022 he added the role of Executive Chef, taking over the operations of what was formerly Tattoria by Chef Marc, where he transformed and rebranded the eatery as Chef Joel’s Ottimo Gourmet Kitchen and Pizzeria bringing regional dishes to his elevated Italian cuisine. In his dual role as Ahern’s Executive Chef and V.P. of Culinary Operations, Chef Joel offers an immersive culinary experience that includes multiple eateries featuring global cuisine and heightened Italian flavors as well as event catering.
For Ottimo Kitchen’s special Grand Opening event, guests got to sample a variety of Chef Joel’s amazing recipes at the all you can eat buffet featuring Charcuterie and garlic knots, New York-style pizzas, ButterCrust pan pizzas, Ottimo’s house-made, all-beef & ricotta meatballs simmered in Sunday gravy, slow-smoked chicken thighs, fresh pastas made by hand, Caesar salad, house salad, and to satisfy the sweet tooth, separate stations offering an assortment of sinfully delicious desserts and gelatos. In addition, guests were offered unlimited 5-oz tasters of Able Baker craft beers including Atomic Duck, Honey Dip Stout and Mango Calutron Girl, and were treated to live musical entertainment by a pair of talented musicians.
Knowing that my husband and I are gluten free vegetarians, Chef Joel was very accommodating and had a member of his staff make us a special gluten free pizza topped with a variety of cooked vegetables, that was very tasty.

Presently, construction is underway on the second floor of the Ahern Hotel for Joel’s Chophouse, his next new eatery scheduled to open in late August, which will provide elegant dinner service with a focus on wine pairing.
Serving gourmet-casual breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch, Ottimo Gourmet Kitchen & Pizzeria is located on the first floor inside Ahern Hotel. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“Puttin’ on the GLITZ” Benefit Concert Kicks Off Liberace Legacy Week
Emmy and Golden Globe winning choreographer and producer Jeff Kutash (“Splash!”) collaborated with composer Keith Thompson (“Jersey Boys,” “Composers Showcase”) on Monday evening, May 15, to present “Puttin’ On The Glitz,” an exciting musical benefit concert that celebrated “Mr. Showmanship,” Liberace, a pioneer and trailblazer, who inspired a list of many of today’s top performers in the music industry including rappers and superstars such as Elton John and Lady Gaga.
The concert, which was held at Coops Cabaret & Hot Spot in Commercial Center, an iconic vintage Vegas shopping and dining complex, kicked off Liberace Legacy Week, and included his birthday celebration and the commemoration of Liberace Avenue, the newly named city street honoring the man that was once Las Vegas’ highest paid and most revered entertainer and piano man.
At 6 p.m. festivities began with a happy hour reception featuring cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a few showgirls, that was followed at 7 p.m with a fabulous one-hour musical concert starring internationally renowned pianist Philip Fortenberry, known as the Hands of Liberace because of his role as hand and body double for Michael Douglas in the HBO biopic, “Behind the Candelabra,” powerhouse Broadway singers Brent Barrett (“The Phantom,” “Chicago”) and Niki Scalera (“Hairspray,” “Tarzan,” “Cocktail Cabaret”) plus surprise guest, former American Idol finalist, Daniel Emmett.
The event also showcased a special sneak preview of “GLITZ!,” a brand new, spectacular Las Vegas musical production created by director Kutash that promises to be a welcome throwback to Las Vegas shows from yesteryear, featuring lots of “glitz” and glamour, a top notch cast of performers including 50 dancers and showgirls and will pay to the late great, Liberace, by capturing his spirit while tracing his rise to fame.
Kutash, accompanied by video clips of the upcoming production, spoke about his latest, ambitious endeavor and premiered the show’s new original theme song written by Thompson, Glitz’s musical director and Composers Showcase founder and host, that was beautifully performed by Barrett and Scalera.
Tickets to this awesome event were $125 per person with proceeds benefitting nonprofits The Composers Showcase of Las Vegas and the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts.
L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater Casino Resort in Laughlin debuts with a Raucous Grand Opening Party
The new L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater, located inside Edgewater Casino Resort, celebrated its grand opening on Thursday night, May 11, with a lineup of hilarious performances by resident comic James Michael and guest comics Julio Gonzalez and Jay Reid.
Michael, arrived on horseback to officially commence the event. He was then joined on the red carpet by two of L.A. Comedy Club’s most popular comedians, Julio Gonzalez and Jay Reid, where they playfully posed for photos. Other guests on the red carpet included Joaquin Trujillo and Matt Chavez, two of the co-owners of VEGAS JEM, which produces L.A. Comedy Club. To commemorate the new showroom, a proclamation was presented on behalf of Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft.
Gonzalez opened the night’s show with a hilarious set, followed by Michael, who had the crowd roaring with laughter. Next to perform was Jay Reid, winner of “Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes,” who had the audience in stitches. After Reid’s set, Michael returned to the stage to welcome everyone to his new home in Laughlin and to give shout-outs to L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater’s staff and production team. Michael then brought Trujillo to the stage. The evening gave the crowd a taste of what L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater offers audiences – top-notch stand-up comedy and live entertainment in a showroom with a full bar and cool, laidback vibe.
L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater is the third venue from Vegas JEM, the production company behind the award-winning L.A. Comedy Club at The STRAT. Now open to the public, L.A. Comedy Club at Edgewater offers shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. nightly from Wednesday through Sunday. James Michael’s Redneck Comedy Show kicks off performances nightly at 7 p.m. Top national touring comedians headline the 9 p.m. shows, with hilarious comics such as Carlos Rodriguez, Edwin San Juan and Geoff Keith performing soon.

On Monday, May 16, employees at the TROPICANA LAS VEGAS were given notice that the casino resort will close in 18-24 months — pending approval of $395 million in public financing for a new stadium for the Oakland Athletics MLB team. The deal calls for regional casino operator Bally’s to implode the Tropicana, the third-oldest resort on the Las Vegas Strip. However, the company also pledged to build a new, 1,500-room casino hotel on the property bearing the Bally’s name. According to a statement, “Bally’s intends to continue the operations of the Tropicana Las Vegas for the foreseeable future while evaluating all available options for a broader redevelopment of the remainder of the site that will be adjacent to the new ballpark.”
SOL MEXICAN CANTINA, located at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, recently launched its popular TACO TUESDAYS available in the bar area only, beginning at 3 p.m. every Tuesday and lasting until the restaurant closes. This includes restaurant favorites like: Firecracker Quesadilla ($11), a classic chicken quesadilla including Sriracha sauce and $13 Street Tacos(2) , including chicken, carnitas, and beer-battered fish. The baja-fresh fare can be washed down with $11 House Margaritas, or the summer classic Watermelon Margarita ($13) made with muddled fresh watermelon as well as more food and drink specials.
